Background information

Region Dalarna decided to conduct an in-depth follow-up of physiotherapists active under the Act on Compensation for Physiotherapy (LOF). This is part of Region Dalarna's systematic follow-up of healthcare providers. These in-depth follow-ups are an important part of the region's work on operational and quality development, to ensure that good and safe care is provided and to increase knowledge among the parties concerned. Physiotherapy refers to physiotherapeutic treatment that is caused by injury or illness.

Mission statement

In the spring of 2022, Sirona was commissioned to conduct an independent review of the documented medical quality and availability of selected physiotherapists in Region Dalarna, as well as reviewing invoiced reimbursement from physiotherapists operating under LOF.

Implementation

The audit covered a sample of practices in the region. The record review was based on de-identified patient records per healthcare provider.

The audit examined the healthcare providers' medical record documentation with regard to, among other things, diagnosis, treatment measures and scope, as well as the other requirements that apply to good medical record keeping.

The audit was conducted through semi-structured interviews with all physiotherapists, a medical record review and an examination of the physiotherapists' compliance with relevant laws and national regulations for eligibility.

Outcome

The work was delivered in the form of a written report containing findings, assessments and conclusions. Based on the results of the audit, Sirona has presented a number of suggestions for improvement, such as continuing to offer training in record keeping and contractual issues to increase knowledge of quality and patient safety work.

Sirona thanks you for your trust in this important work!
