"Rogue operators have no business in healthcare - regions must act decisively to ensure safe and effective care for citizens."

In recent years, welfare fraud has received increasing attention in Swedish health and social care. These include rogue actors who have managed to get into the system, and actors who exploit existing systems by over-billing or over-treating. These types of welfare crimes not only pose a threat to patient safety, but also risk undermining confidence in the health and care sector.

Sirona has extensive experience of working with several regions against welfare crime, partly through assignments where we carry out in-depth follow-ups of healthcare providers on behalf of regions, and partly by reviewing and analyzing care structures to identify such risks. We see it as a priority to support regions and authorities in their work to prevent rogue actors from gaining a foothold in healthcare. By combining in-depth analysis with concrete recommendations, we help our clients create robust systems that ensure both quality and control.

During the year, we carried out several audits of healthcare providers in specialist care in Region Stockholm, on behalf of the Healthcare Administration.
- Audits of healthcare providers are a key tool for ensuring contract compliance, medical quality and patient safety. Although most healthcare providers, both in the private and public sector, do not engage in irregularities, audits are sometimes needed to ensure a robust system - says Shadi Abbas, Managing Director at Sirona

In addition to audits of healthcare providers, during the year we also worked with Region Skåne on an audit of the region's work on controlling providers within LOV and LOU.
- There we have worked to review structures and processes for follow-up and control to ensure that control functions and agreements are appropriate for the care system as a whole. - Shadi continues.

The above are just a few examples of how Sirona supports regions in countering welfare fraud while contributing to more effective care.
