Hundreds of new record keeping templates. Supportive job descriptions that are expected to benefit nearly 2 million patients and tens of thousands of healthcare workers in the long term. Sirona's consultants are developing the healthcare information support of the future on behalf of Sussa, a collaboration between nine regions in Sweden.

- We are leading a large sub-project that deals with working methods and common configuration, says Mattias Lindberg, project manager and digitalization expert at Sirona.

The nine regions that are part of Sussa have joined forces and procured a new medical records system, Cosmic. This means that a patient's care data will be collected and managed in a uniform way, including through the medical record templates developed in the project.

- These documents should support the treating doctors and nurses. Therefore, it is necessary to find out exactly what information they should contain," says Mattias Lindberg.

The subject is complex: in primary care, patient documentation tends to be broad, but ophthalmologists, cancer specialists, surgeons and orthopaedic surgeons, for example, keep more specific records. Documentation affects referrals, drug prescriptions, patient transfers and sample orders - for which templates are also being developed.

Within the framework of the mission, Sirona also defines how to work in Cosmic.

- For example, it can be about how a midwife documents a birth. Which parameters are entered in the medical record and in what way," explains Mattias Lindberg.

Sirona has been working with Sussa since 2017 and the healthcare information support project has been running since 2021. Sirona's consultants are working with hundreds of representatives and specialists from the regions to formulate the documents. The plan is for Cosmic to be launched in 2024.

- "The complexity is a challenge, but it is satisfying to contribute to a modern system that will be of great benefit to society," says Mattias Lindberg.

Footnote: Sussa includes nine regions: Blekinge, Dalarna, Gävleborg, Halland, Norrbotten, Sörmland, Västerbotten, Västernorrland and Örebro counties.
