Background information

The hospital in question had been working with a surgical planning system for several years. When the supplier of the system decided to stop developing and supporting the version in use, the hospital decided to implement an updated version of the OR planning system.

Challenge

In the previous version, businesses had ample opportunity to customize the system to a large extent. This meant that the system was difficult to administer and it created difficulties in getting an overview of the system. In the new version, it was decided that the way of working around operation planning and operation follow-up would be carried out in a more standardized and common way. Furthermore, there were challenges in integrating the new version with, among other things, the hospital's billing system, data warehouse, reporting system and other medical record systems. An additional requirement was to adapt the system to updated requirements in the Patient Data Act.

Implementation

Sirona was responsible for the project management and implementation, and the implementation was done jointly in a project team with the hospital administration, business representatives and consulting support from Sirona. In addition, Sirona organized requirements management from the business through various reference groups. Sirona was involved in all parts, including ordering and procurement of system components, requirements definition and testing of the system, training of end users and introduction and evaluation of the entire implementation project.

Outcome

The project resulted in a new, improved surgical planning system that handles over 50 000 patients per year, with around 4 000 users in the hospital. The work also resulted in the system meeting the new requirements of the Patient Data Act
