Background information

The region wanted to increase transparency between care providers and purchasers by initiating a development dialogue with the services. Furthermore, the region wanted to introduce a methodology for performance evaluation to ensure safe and evidence-based care delivered with the right skills and resources.

Challenge

Sirona's task was to develop a current situation for physiotherapy in primary care in the region. This included developing a methodology for creating learning and reviewing how the region should work with operational evaluations in the future.

Implementation

Sirona conducted quantitative analyses of the county council's internal healthcare data as well as publicly available data to provide a current picture of physiotherapy in the region.

For the further evaluation of activities, a quarter of all activities were selected with the aim of obtaining a representative sample based on the activities' production, specialty and geographical location. For the selected activities, site visits were conducted with interviews with heads of activities and physiotherapists with reimbursement according to the national tariff and at health centers. For these activities, medical record reviews were also conducted to ensure compliance with applicable agreements, regulations, laws, medical guidelines and regulations.

Outcome

Sirona's work resulted in a thorough operational review and a current picture of physiotherapy in the region. The operational evaluation showed overall good quality of physiotherapy in the county council, but with room for further development. Based on fact-based analysis, Sirona formulated recommended measures to further develop physiotherapy in the region. The work also resulted in the development of a methodology for how the region should work with operational evaluations in the future.
