This year we celebrate Johan Hilm, Director at Sirona, celebrates ten years as part of the company. His journey is an inspiring example of how long-term commitment and innovation can create real change in healthcare.
- What attracted me to Sirona in the first place was the opportunity to work with improvement in healthcare. I wanted to help create better health for more people," says Johan.
But it's not just the company's vision that has kept him at Sirona - it's also the stimulating environment.
- "The combination of challenging projects, driven and fun colleagues, and the freedom to direct my professional development has been crucial.

A decade of valuable change
During his ten years at Sirona, Johan has had a unique insight into the changes that have shaped both the company and healthcare in general.
- The opportunities of digitization have been the biggest driver. We have seen major changes in the way healthcare is delivered, with a focus on good and close care. Digitalization has opened doors to new ways of working and enabled interventions that were previously not possible. He also highlights how self-care has become more accessible.
- In the past, we talked about the importance of walking so and so many steps, but today we can offer individualized training programs and remote monitoring that make a big difference for the patient.
Looking ahead, Johan sees the issue of resources becoming increasingly central.
- With an ageing population and a reduced dependency ratio, we need to think differently about how our common resources are used.
At the same time, we need to manage the ongoing climate emergency
- How do we design an emission-efficient health system that does not contribute to heat waves, zoonoses or other future ill health in Sweden and the world?

The future - sustainable and value-creating care
When it comes to the future, Johan is clear: he wants to continue to drive change with a focus on sustainability and efficiency.
- I am passionate about phasing out care and methods that do not create value and replacing them with alternatives that are more efficient and climate-friendly. In addition, it is important to minimize the need for care through early and proactive interventions. He emphasizes that it's not just about changing individual processes, but about bringing about a change in attitude and greater awareness that permeates the entire healthcare system and the decisions that are made - from considering the climate impact of scope 3 in public procurement or the food system to improving care flows and work processes.
- A major transformation is needed, where we really go all the way to ensure an efficient and sustainable use of our common tax money, to meet both today's and tomorrow's needs," concludes Johan.
With his clear vision and drive for improvement, Johan will continue to play an important role in Sirona's work to shape the future of healthcare.
