Did you know that healthy lifestyles can reduce 80% of heart attacks and 30% of cancers? Prevention, of which healthy lifestyles are an example, has enormous potential to improve public health and thus reduce the need for healthcare.
Despite existing knowledge and national guidelines, preventive care initiatives have not been developed. This problem was highlighted by our CEO, Marit Vaagen, already 10 years ago when she spoke at Vinnova's annual conference in 2011. Marit pointed out that the proportion of total health care expenditure spent on preventive care was 4%, a far too small proportion that must be increased. Despite this, the same proportion was still only 3% in 2019.
