Background information
Innovation Skåne AB (ISAB) was tasked with ensuring, through a learning project, the effective utilization of the possibilities of digitalization within Region Skåne's area of activity.
Sirona Health Solutions was commissioned to design and prepare a pilot project together with ISAB. The project included inventorying, analyzing, evaluating and prioritizing digital solutions applicable in primary care with the potential to support new attractive organizational forms, processes and/or new ways of working in primary care.
Challenge
The overall goal and purpose of the project was to ensure the effective exploitation of the opportunities of digitalization in publicly funded healthcare.
Implementation
A hypothesis-driven analysis was conducted based on previous work as well as from clinical expertise by conducting workshops with a reference group, a senior expert group, and interviews with primary care providers in Region Skåne. Furthermore, quantitative analysis of care data (patient groups, care unit data, flow analysis) was carried out to verify the hypothesis-driven analysis as well as an inventory of internationally and nationally available digital solutions. Sirona also assisted with operational project management and implementation of the project, with the steering group taking decisions based on the recommendations of the working group. Budget and financial management responsibilities were included. Sirona also provided expertise in the form of planning, implementation, evaluation, knowledge transfer and impact assessment.
Outcome
Sirona's work contributed to the development of proposals for several pilot projects to start up in primary care. Based on the various analyses, patient groups/flows have been identified where digital solutions can create value. Furthermore, the result was an inventory of technology solutions that can be applied in the Swedish market and a systematic project management based on facts that ensure progress and analysis. Region Skåne received a strategic plan for work regarding investment in digital healthcare, and knowledge transfer took place to ISAB regarding the implementation of this type of strategy and implementation project.
